License Day for Bern First Grade

October 28, 2008
On October 10, 2008, the Bern First Grade was licensed to read. After completing with mastery the first twelve phonic readers and the first reading book of the Treasures program, the first graders qualified for their reading license. KS Highway Patrol Trooper Todd Helm arrived at 8:30 a.m. to perform the ceremony. Trooper Helm congratulated the students on their accomplishments, encouraged them to continue to read every day for their whole life, recited a reading oath that the students echoed, and distributed the licenses with certificates. Upon completion of the ceremony, Trooper Helm answered students’ questions about his occupation and allowed the students to tour his patrol car. As licensed readers, we will continue to read and improve our skills daily. A special thank you to Trooper Helm and all our reading buddies (parents, grandparents, siblings, etc.) who made this day possible.
